A Secret Spot

Viime viikolla lapsella oli lyhyt koulupäivä ja jäin päiväksi kaupunkiin odottelemaan häntä. Kuljeskelin pitkin syksyisiä katuja ja ihmettelin, kuinka kaunis tämä kaupunki oikein on. Mitä ihanuuksia sen pieniltä kaduilta löytyy? Kuten salaisia kahviloita täydellisine porkkanakakkuineen?

Last week I was driving kid to school and waited for her at the town, since it was such a short day at school. I walked along the streets filled with autumn leaves and I was amazed of all the beauty I could see. What kind of treasures you can find from the forgotten alleys? Like a secret coffeeshops with a perfect carrot cake?

A morning

Yhtenä aamuna viime viikolla maailma heräsi syksynhehkuisena ja kauniina. Silloin ei satanut.

One morning last week, there was a beautiful autumn-coloured sunshine playing around the garden. It wasn't raining.

Here I go again

Taas mennään! Ei tosin Helsinkiin, minne kuva viittaa, vaan raskaalle hautajaismatkalle pohjoiseen. Onneksi huomenna jo kotiin. Joskus on matkoja, joita ei vaan haluaisi tehdä.

Here I go again! Not to Helsinki though, where the photo is taken, but up north and to the funeral. Some trips you just wish you could avoid.

It takes a long time to grow old friends

Tänä viikonloppuna vietimme Tampereella perinteistä naisten viikonloppua. Tapaamme noin pari kertaa vuodessa ilman perheitä ja vietämme leppoisaa naisten iltaa vuorotellen jonkun luona. Hyvää syömistä, ulkoilua, joskus shoppailua, saunaa ja aina paljon naurua ja puhetta. Juttu jatkuu siitä mihin viimeksi on jääty - vanhan ystävyyden siunattu helppous! Ystävyytemme on alkanut osan kanssa päiväkodissa, osan kanssa riparilla, ja yhteisiä vuosia ja kilometrejä on reilusti takana. Tällä kertaa meillä oli ilo viettää myös baby showerit, mikä on jo katoavaa kansanperinnettä meidän osaltamme. Juhlimme siis antaumuksella. Seuraavan kerran tavataan tällä kokoonpanolla keväällä Helsingissä; teatterin, shoppailun ja hotelliloman merkeissä.

This Saturday we had the traditional ladies' weekend in Tampere. We try to meet at least twice a year without our families but with good food, sometimes sports or shopping, sauna and always lots of laughter and talking. Old friendship is such a gift; you don't need to explain yourself in order to become understood. We have been friends since kindergarten or confirmation, so we share so many years and miles. This time we could also celebrate a baby shower, probably the last one so we really enjoyed of it. Next time it is the spring, Helsinki, hotel, shopping,  theater, dinner - perfect!

Gifts

Tämä viikko on ollut ihan mahtava. Olen saanut kaksi kaunista kukkakimppua sekä lahjoja Wisconsinista, ihanan keramiikkalautasen ja villiriisiä. Lisäksi jo aiemmin talo on lahjonut meitä, kuten Lempi huomasikin. Vintissä on aina ollut neljä tuolia, ehkä noin 1950-luvulta. Ne ovat ehjät, kauniit, lähes käyttämättömät eikä kukaan tiedä kenen peruja. Peräkamarissa on myös aina ollut tuo kirjava villainen viltti, joka on nyt pojan sängyn peittona. Jotenkin pidän siitä, että talossa on tavaroita, jotka kuuluvat tänne. Talon tavaroista ja meidän tavaroistamme syntyy se kokonaisuus, joka on meidän kotimme. Nuo pöydällä olevat tabletit taas muistuttavat minua siitä ajasta, kun elin yksin ja kaksi tablettia pöydälle oli oikein riittävä määrä. Nyt tarvitsen käyttöön siis kesä- ja joulu-tabletit yhtä aikaa. Jotenkin tuntuu, että olen tällä hetkellä elämän piloille hemmottelema. Ihanaa viikonloppua!

This week has been great. I've got lots of flowers and a beautiful plate with wild rice from Wisconsin (Thank You M <3). Also our house has been sharing her gifts with us lately. This summer we found four chairs from the attic, they are propably from the 1950s and nobody remebers to whom they used to belong to. They are beautiful and we enjoy them every day. Also there's a blanket made from wool, that has always been here. It is now the daily coverage on my step-sons bed. The table cloths reminds me of the time I used to live alone; back then two tablets was plenty. Now I need to use the whole year's collection of tablets at the same time. I am so spoiled by life right now. Have a nice weekend!

Gerbiiliveljekset Darth Vader eli Dartsi ja Napanepo-Nöpönen eli Napsu täyttivät viime viikolla vuoden. Juhlimme sitä tietysti viikonloppuna vaikkakin vähän vaatimattomasti minun tullessa juuri reissusta. Lahjaksi gerbbaveljekset saivat muutoksen elintilaansa. Ne muuttivat kuistista asuintiloihin, sillä kuisti on talvella tosi kylmä emmekä aio tänä talvena lämmittää sen lattiaa harakoille ja pikku hiirille. Kissoista tämä oli mahtava parannus. Ne tuijottavat gerbiileitä kuin telkkaria. Tosin myös kiipeilevät terraarion päälle, mikä on huolestuttavaa. Gerbba-pojat etsivät siis vielä paikkaansa kotona.

The gerbil-brothers Dartsi and Napsu had their 1st birthday last week. At the weekend we had to celebrate them a bit, at least with a small cake or two. They also moved away from the porch, which is quite cold during the winter. They are still searching for their place, since the kittens are very keen on following them, also on top of the terrarium. Happy Birthday little mice-fellows!

A perfect match

Chanel Ginger Poppyseed Johnsonilla näyttää olevan erinomainen tyylitaju. Ei ihme, sillä onhan se kaunis ja hienostunut kissa. Se ottaa päivätorkkunsakin vain tyylikkäästi ja täydellisen yhteensopivasti. Muuten se on pikkuveljeään Chiliä itsenäisempi ja etäisempikin, tulee harvoin syliin, mutta sallii poskiaan suukoteltavan. Veljestään se toki tykkää ja aivan erityisesti Cisse James Hetfieldistä, maalaiskissojen kuninkaasta. Chanel aloittaa kovaäänisen kehräämisen heti Cissen ilmestyttyä paikalle ja sen suurin onni on se, kun se pääsee kuningas Cissen kainaloon. 

Chanel Ginger Poppyseed Johnson seems to have a perfect taste for matching colours. And why wouldn't she, she is an  exceptionally beautiful and sophsticated cat, like her name points out. Chanel is more independent than her brother Chili, she rarely comes close to us herself but she allows us to kiss her cheeks. She loves her brother obviously, but Cisse James Hetfield is something she adores. The Greatest Cat on Earth! The King of the Village! Chanel's happy moment is when Cisse the Great allows her to come close to him and they nap together. That's purrrrrrre heaven.

New carpets

Olen jo pitkään himoinnut tällaisia virkattuja mattoja, mutta en ole raaskinut hankkia. Eilen sain sellaiset ystävältä, hän oli tilannut ne äidiltään. Punainen on jouluksi ja sininen muuten vain, sijoitin sen nyt kylppärin oven eteen vinttiin. Pikkucisut ihastuivat mattoihin heti, sillä ne ovat niin paksut ja pehmeät. Matot ovat ihanat!

I've been dreaming of these kind of hand-made carpets and now I got two of them from my friend. She had asked her mom to knit us these and I just love them! The red one is for Christmas and the blue one found a place in front of bathroom up-stairs. Little cats adore the carpets, they feel so thick and soft.

The Roadtrip

Lähdin keskiviikkona pohjanmaalle ja palasin tänään. Oli raskas reissu, vaikka paluumatkalla tulinkin mukavia pikkuteitä pitkin vaihtelevassa syyspäivässä. Ja pilvet olivat upeita. On ihanaa olla kotona. Päivän ainoa hyvä uutinen on, että rakas Mii voitti hopeaa SM-kisoissa. Duktig flicka!

I drove up north on wednesday and came back today. It was really exhausting trip although on my way back I found really nice route and could enjoy all the weathers of an autumn day. The cloudy sky was amazing. I'm so happy to be home. The good news today was that dear Mii is the second best in Finland in her sport. Go girl, we're sooooo proud of you!

This week

Ensimmäinen kotiviikko takana. Aika suorastaan lentää! Opiskelun lisäksi paljon mukavia syyspuuhia, kuten omenien laittoa, kanojen kanssa ulkoilua ja leipomista. Ingridin sulkasato on ohi ja vaikka se ei muni, se kaunis kuin kulhollinen kermavaahtoa. Viikonloppuna rakkaat ystävät olivat kylässä ja teimme yhdessä ihania ruokia, kuten cajun-jättikatkoja. Lisäksi pihatöitä, pitkiä kävelylenkkejä ja saunaa, mikä ihana viikonloppu! Kissat ovat uuvuksissa jouduttuaan melkein käyttäytymään ja pysyttelemään pois ruokapöydältä. 

My first week at home has just flied. I've been studing but also been enjoying gardening, company of our chicken, cooking apple jam and baking. Ingrid the chicken is doing better and she's beautiful like a bowl of whipped cream. This weekend we had our dear friends visiting and we cooked such a delicious cajun shrimps and other goodies. Little cats are exhausted after almost-behaving well. It's so difficult for them to stay away from the table.

Helsinki

Alkuviikosta olin pari päivää nauttimassa Helsingistä. Ystävien seuraa, yökyläilyä, kävelyretkiä, brunssi Krullassa. Uusi ihana Kaisa-opiskelijakirjasto. Elämä on hyvä!

Earlier this week I spent a couple of days in Helsinki. Quality time with friends, sleep-over, long walks and a brunch in Krulla. The opening of the new university library Kaisa, it's amazing. Life is good!

Keep calm and bake on

Tämän ihanan leivontaliinan tilasin Johannan Kaupparatsusta . Se saa toimia myös mottona juuri alkaneelle opintovapaalleni, sillä arvelen, että gradun lisäksi tulen leipomaan aika tavalla. Tänään on vietetty sateista lauantaita ja isäni 69-vuotissyntymäpäivää. Minä sain lahjaksi kaksi kaadettua puuta, hän Sofi Oksasen uuden romaanin. 

I just love this red towel, which I got from Johanna's netshop.  Today is the first day of my three monts long studing leave and this is a perfect motto for that too. A lot of baking and one thesis coming right up. Today is also my dad's 69 th birthday, but I got the present: two trees cut down in front of the house. Purrrrrfect!
