Happy New Year!

Kulunut vuosi on ollut monella tapaa ensimmäinen tai viimeinen. Ensimmäinen kokonainen vuosi talossa. Ensimmäinen vuosi naimisissa. Viimeinen vuosi, kun perheemme poika on vielä alaikäinen. Ensi vuonna hän jo aikuinen, vaikka sanookin pysyvänsä lapsellisena. Ensimmäinen vuosi, kun meillä oli kanoja. Viimeinen kevät, kun rakas Cinnamme oli kanssamme. Ensimmäinen kesä, kun sen hurjapäiset pikkuveli ja sisko muuttivat meille. Pekingin kevät, rakkauteni Hong Kongiin syttyi. Ensimmäinen kokonainen vuosi puutarhassa.(Odotan kovasti jo seuraavaa vuotta.) Isän sairastuminen. Oma onnellinen syksyni. Tämä vuosi oli menetyksistään ja suruistaan huolimatta hyvä ja onnellinen vuosi. Onnellista, siunattua ja elämäntäyteistä vuotta 2013 meille kaikille!

This year has been in many ways "the first" or "the last". The first whole year in the house. The first year in our marriage. The last year, when our son is a minor. Next year he´ll be an adult, though he says he is still going to be childish. The first year we had the chickens. The last spring we had our beloved Cinnamon in our life. The first summer her wild siblings Chili and Chanel moved to us. The spring in Beijing, my love to Hong Kong. The first whole year in the garden.( I'm so looking forward to the next one!) My father´s stroke. My happy autumn at home. This year has still been a good and happy year despite of all the sorrow and loss we had to face. May the year 2013 be blessed, happy and full of life for all of us!

Holiday

Joulu sujui yhtä aikaa rauhallisesti ja vauhdilla. Perheen, suvun ja ystävien seuraa, kummilapsia, kirkossa ja haudoilla käymistä, ulkoilua, lumitöitä. Palasimme juuri lumiselta keski-pohjanmaalta, mistä pari viimeistä kuvaa ovat. Valkoinen talo on veljeni ja minun syntymäkotimme, samoin myös isämme, ja se on rakennettu vuonna 1800-luvun lopulla. Veljeni on korjannut sen perheelleen kodiksi. Heidän pihansa on aarreaitta ja ilo silmälle, kuten kuvassa näkyvä lato. Meillä taitaa olla sukuvikana kiintymys vanhoihin taloihin. Lomalla on ollut ihanaa. Vielä pari juhlallista lomapäivää ennen paluuta arkeen.

The Christmas time has been both peaceful and busy season. We have spent time with family, friends and relatives. We've been to church and to the graveyards (I love graveyards!), walking and working in the snow. We just got back from north, where from the last photos are taken. The white house is the one my brother, I and our father were born in. It is about 120 years old and my brother has repaired for his family. It seems like the love for old houses runs in the family. Their house and yard is full of treasures like this small barn. The holiday has been great! Few more days to celebrate before going back to the normal life.

Joulu on jo käsillä, joulukuu sen sijaan on livahtanut käsistäni. Töihin paluu oli rankempaa kuin kuvittelin ja kuoron joulukonsertti vei myös paljon aikaa. Lumi on armeliaasti peittänyt pihan ja kuistin sain lopultakin valmiiksi. Siirsin sinne puisen kaapin ja kenkäkaapin eteen sain verhon, jossa lukee nerokkaasti Kenkiä. Kanala odottaa ensi kesää ja kanarouvien paluuta. Tänään lämmitetään pihasauna ja nautitaan pakkasen ja saunan yhdistelmästä. Hyvää ja tunnelmallista joulua ystävät! God Jul kära vänner!

The Christmas is almost here, but it seems that I've lost the whole December. Going back to work was harder than I expected and also the choir's christmas concert kept me busy. The snow has kindly covered the garden and the porch I managed to organize with an old closet and a curtain for the shoeshelf. The chicken house is waiting for the next summer and the return of the Chicken Ladies. Tonight we are warming up the old outdoor sauna and enjoying of the mixture of freezing cold and burning hot. Have a beautiful Christmas time dear friends!

Stockholm

Ihana Tukholma. Kaakaota vanhassa kaupungissa. Joululahjapaperit Lagerhausista. Shoppailua Åhlensilla. Waynes Coffee. Myrskyisä meri. Talvi ja ajatus joulusta.

I love Stockholm. Hot cocoa in the old town. Christmas wrapping papers from Lagerhaus. Shopping at Åhlens. A huge latte in the Waynes Coffee. Storm at the sea. The winter and a touch of christmas.

Emme tanssineet häissämme viime tapaninpäivänä, joten meiltä puuttuu oma hääbiisi. Jos olisimme tanssineet, biisi olisi ollut tämä.  Se saa minut aina hymyilemään.

Let it snow

Kuva viime keväältä, lumi siis lavastettu. The photo is from the last spring. Not snowing yet.

Tulkoon talvi, lumi, pakkanen. Puutarhan syystyöt on tehty ja olen valmis. Pakenen kuitenkin varmuuden vuoksi loppuviikoksi Tukholmaan, keikun laivalla 15m/s tuulessa ja aion juoda kermavaahtokaakaota vanhassa kaupungissa. "As long as you love me so, let it snow, let it snow, let it snow...."

I'm ready for the winter, snow and frostbites. So is my garden. I'm still escaping to Stockholm for few days, to enjoy hot cocoa with whipped cream in the old town. "As long as you love me so, let it snow, let it snow, let it snow..."

The last autumn day

Ja viimeinen kotona opiskeltu arkipäivä myös. Loppuviikon pidän lomaa ja lähden iloiselle palkintomatkalle Tukholmaan Lempin kanssa. Tänään vielä aurinko paistaa, mutta huomenna kuulemma tulee talvi. Syksy on ollut mahtava, olen tosi kiitollinen, että olen saanut rauhassa opiskella ja nauttia kotielämästä. Reippaana ja iloisena on myös mukava palata töihin.

They say, that the winter is coming tomorrow. This is also the last studing day at home this week, since I'm having a tiny holiday in Stockholm with my friend Lempi starting tomorrow. Today the sun is shining and it is a beautiful autumn day. I'm so grateful for being able to study at home for three months and to enjoy this peaceful life at home and in the garden. Feeling so good I'm also happy to go back to work.

Saturday

Tässä ohje Pinkille <3 tarvitset katkarapuja (mitä isompia, sen parempia) ja laita ne sulamaan. Mausta valtavalla määrällä valkosipulia, paprikamaustetta, cajunmaustetta ja chiliä. Paista sipulia ja paprikaa (paljon) ohuina viipaleina voissa. Tykkään itse, että saavat olla aika pehmeitä. Mausta niitäkin yllämainituilla mausteilla. Lisää ruokakermaa (ei ihan kevyttä) ja juuri ennen tarjoilua katkaravut, niin että vain kypsyvät, älä keitä. Jos liemi on liian ohutta, maizenalla voi paksuntaa. Viime hetkellä voi lisätä myös valtavasti persiljaa, tarvittaessa suolaa. Tarjoa lisäksi erittäin valkosipulisia ja suolaisia lohkoperunoita ja hyvää leipää. Tajuttoman hyvää! Ohje mukailtu siis Bubba Gump-ravintolan ihanista cajun katkaravuista. Jestas, miten kaipaan Hong Kongia.

Here´s a recipe for Pinkki, who asked this. I cooked today shrimps (the bigger the better) with garlic, red pepper spice, cajun spice and chili. I let them melt in peace and with a lot of spice. Mean while I cook onion ja red pepper slices until they are soft and nice, I use the same spices too. Some cream, corn starch and salt if needed and shimps to sauce just for a minute or two, no more cooking. I serve them with a good bread and very salty garlic-potatoes. Soooo good! This is my version of Bubba Gump restaurant´s amazing cajun shrimps in Hong Kong. Have a nice saturday! We are just gathering to the sofa for a movie. I love saturdays!

A great morning

En uskalla vielä laskea jäljellä olevien vapaiden aamujen määrää, vaan yritän vain nauttia niistä. Vein typyn kouluun ja jäin kaupunkiin aamulenkille. Jätin auton Porthaninkadulle ja juoksin sieltä jokirantaa pitkin mutterikioskille saakka, sitten sieltä Linnankatua takaisin. Kirjastoon oli pakko poiketa, se on suosikkikirjastoni ever. Nämä kuvat ovat vanhoja, kuten puiden lehdistä voi päätellä. Kuvat on otettu vanhan osion suunnasta, mutta uusi puoli on minusta vieläkin kauniimpi. Hyvä aamu.

I´m trying not to count how many peaceful mornings I have left before going back to work, but to try enjoy of them. This morning I took my step-daughter to school in town and stayed for a morning run. Turku is the most beautiful place for running or walking by the river. On my way back I had to step in to my favourite library in the whole world. The photos are taken earlier, not this morning, and you can see the old part of the building. The modern part is my favourite, you can see the bits of it behind the trees. This was a good morning I must say.

Many faces

Marraskuu on jotenkin tosi monipuolinen kuukausi. Välillä herätään sumuun tai ihmetellään jäässä olevaa lampea, välillä nautitaan kirkkaista, kuulaista päivistä. Iltojen pimeys on mustaakin pimeämpi. Mainettaan parempi kuukausi, uusi ystäväni.

November has so many faces. The misty mornings, the frozen pond. The bright and shining days and the darkest of evenings with the black ground. I have found a friend in November, my new favourite month.

Last saturday

Viime lauantaina vietin ihanaa Espoo-Helsinki-päivää ja pääsin lopultakin Köketin brunssille ihanan Tubbsin kanssa. Kuten Tubbsin kuvista voi päätellä, tarjolla oli herkkuja ja ympäristö viihtyisä. Hieman kitkeränä olin tosin siitä, ettei brunssiin kuuluneet croisantit. Pyhäinhäväistys, jos minulta kysytään. Croisantithan ovat brunssin pääruoka-aine.

Last saturday I had a lovely day in Espoo-Helsinki area ja I was finally able to test the brunch in Köket with dear Tubbs. She took the photos above and as you can see, there was a lot of goodies on the table. I missed croissants though, I think they are the essential ingredient what comes to brunch. Tubbs is nominated in the Bloggpriset 2012 competition in the Finnish Bloggs-serie and you can vote for her here. In Tapiola you can find Riitta Kukkasniemi´s  aquarelle exhibition, still going on this week. My saturday was perfect with these two ladies.

Sunday

Koska eilen olin humputtelemassa, tänään on pitänyt paiskia hommia. Kaaos kasvaa pöydällä kun deadline ja töihinpaluu lähestyy. Välillä on vain pakko mennä Chanelin viereen ja torkkua hieman. Ihana sunnuntai!

Because I went to Helsinki yesterday, today I had to work. The chaos is getting bigger every day, since the deadline is getting closer and my studing leave ending soon. Sometimes I just have to take a break and nap a little with adorable Chanel. What a great sunday!

Another carpet

Ystäväni äiti on armoitettu mattojen tekijä, lähes kaikki omistamani matot ovat hänen käsialaansa. Aiemmin syksyllä tilasin häneltä keittiöön hieman isomman ja mustan virkatun maton. Viime reissulla sen hain valmiina. Se on ihana!

My friend´s mom has a gift for making carpets. I think almost all of my carpets are made by her. Earlier this fall I asked her to make us black and a bit bigger carpet to our kitchen. Here it is now, and I love it!

Amazing November

Olen oppinut rakastamaan marraskuuta. Mitä upeita päiviä onkaan ollut, välillä sumuisia, välillä kirkkaita ja kuulaita. Tämä on hieno vuodenaika, jos on mahdollisuus lepoon ja omaan rytmiin.

I have learned to love November. What a beautiful days we have had? Some days misty, the others bright and shiny. This is a great time of the year, if you can rest and breath on your own rhytmn.

My e-mail doesn't work and in my frustration I started to browse old photos. I found this photo of our beloved Cinnamon. Darling Tubbs has taken the photo and you can see the beautiful wall from the old home there too. We still miss you a lot, the most beautiful black little cat in the world.

Isänpäivä

Tänään olen ollut erityisen kiitollinen siitä, että isä sai vielä jatkoaikaa ja on toipunut lähes omaksi itsekseen saamastaan aivoinfarktista. Se tuntuu suorastaan ihmeeltä, ja olen tosi kiitollinen myös kaikista rukouksista, jotka kantoivat ja paransivat häntä. Kuvassa isä on luonamme syyskuun alussa, jolloin hän kaatoi kaksi puuta. Hän on jättänyt omat puumerkkinsä puutarhaamme, mutta erityisesti minuun. En tiedä millainen ihminen olisin ilman isää. Hänen rakkautensa on ollut elämäni peruskallio. Ehkä siitä syystä myös olen valinnut myös puolisoksi miehen, joka on hyvä isä lapsilleen.

Today we have celebrated the Father´s Day and I´ve been grateful especially for my father's amazing recovery after his stroke almost six weeks ago. I'm also very grateful for all the prayers, that helped and carried him. It seems like a miracle, that he is almost back to himself this soon. In the photo he is visiting us in September and cutting down two trees. He left his fingerprints at my the garden, but especially in me. I don't know what kind of a person I would be without my father and his love in my life. Maybe that's why I have married this good man, who is a great father to his children.

Back to the Autumn

Tänä aamuna lumet olivat sulaneet ja syksy jatkui. Pitkä aamulenkki ystävän kanssa metsässä ja sen jälkeen pihatöitä nautinnolliseen väsymykseen saakka. Ilta koneella ja yksi essee palautuskuntoon. Tämä on ollut hyvä päivä.

This morning all the snow had melt away and we were back to the autumn again. A long walk in the forest with a dear friend and then gardening - just love it! Working by the computer in the evening and one more course done. This has been a good day.

This week

Tämä viikko toi talven tullessaan. Chili leikattiin ja se oli kovin kipeä yhden päivän ajan. Nyt se jo riehuu entiseen tapaan. Kanat lähtivät talvimajoitukseen ja on tyhjää ilman niitä. Mutta helpottavaa, kun ei tarvitse murehtia niiden paleltuvan kesämökkiinsä. En ole vielä sopeutunut ajatukseen talvesta, joten toivon, että tämä on vain pieni takasiku syksyn keskellä. Tämän viikonlopun osalta se kuitenkin tarkoittaa, että suunnittelemamme pihaurakka jää ensi viikkoon ja meitä kutsuu sohva, takkatuli ja Harry Potter osat 3 ja 4. Leppoisaa ja lämmintä viikonloppua!

Winter came this week, all too soon. Chili was castrated and he was really sick for one day. The chickens left for their winter residence and I really miss them. It was very cold last night, -12 celcius so I was happy not to worry about them in their cold cottage. I'm not used to the idea of winter yet so I hope the snow will melt soon and I get everything finished at the garden. But for this weekend it means that the working day at the garden is cancelled; sofa, more wood to the fireplace and Harry Potter movies parts 3 and 4. Have a warm and cosy weekend too!
